About this playlist
Turn the lights down and the amp up. This 2020 hit list gathers heavy, downtuned rock and alternative metal built on thick guitar grain, chugging palm-muted rhythms and drums that hit with a dry, close-miked punch. The mix leans wide on the bass and sits tight on the snare, so each track feels like it is pressing against the walls of a cramped room. Hard rock grooves sit alongside heavier, darker cuts, giving the sequence a steady push rather than a single mood. Some tracks lean on stomping midtempo pulses, others on abrupt tempo shifts and feedback that rings out into silence. It works best as a night session with headphones or a loud system, where the low frequencies can be felt as much as heard. Curated in the underground.
