Smoky Nu Jazz Chill Mood Playlist, 2024 Edition

About this playlist

This 2024 chill mood selection leans into the murkier end of nu jazz and trip hop, where electric piano keys arrive already bent through overdriven tape and the low end sits thick enough to feel in the chest. Downtempo pulses move at a slouched, unhurried pace, letting brushed snares smear into hiss while bass lines bloom with grit. Jazz funk grooves surface in places, their horns softened and pushed toward the back of the mix, while exotica touches add wide stereo space and faint percussive chatter drifting at the edges. The overall climate is dark but intimate, the kind of fuzzed, saturation-heavy haze that suits a dim room, a long commute after midnight, or a slow reset between tasks. Curator Ricardo Mendivil shaped the sequence as one continuous atmosphere rather.
