Smoky Trip Hop Nights: Gnawa Guitar and Downtempo Haze

About this playlist

This one plays like a record you put on after midnight with the lamp turned low. Slow, dusty drum patterns sit well behind the beat, leaving room for reverb tails to bloom and fade across the mix. Electric guitar arrives with a frayed, sun-warmed grain that brushes against hushed synth pads and rounded bass lines. Nu jazz keys drift in at odd angles, while the gnawa influence adds a hypnotic, low-slung rhythm that feels more ritual than club. Some stretches are almost conversational, with vocals tucked deep in the reverb and textures layered like worn cassette tape. Others pull toward a darker electronic haze, where the low end swells and the highs thin out. Taken as a whole, it works as an album-length listen: sixteen tracks that move through intimacy.
