About this playlist
Some of this psych rock sounds like it was recorded in a room that has stopped being a room. Guitars arrive smeared in fuzz and tremolo, bass sits low and patient, and drums keep a loose, dragging pulse that refuses to hurry anything. Organ and tape-soaked vocals bleed into each other until the boundary between song and drone starts to blur. The mood is wary rather than ecstatic: a cynical haze that suits the hours when nothing feels resolved. Long stretches of reverb do most of the talking, and the quieter passages carry more menace than the loud ones. This is a collection for headphones, dim lamps and a mind that has stopped expecting good news. Across its wide spread of eras, the mix keeps returning to the same sour.
